Fire Underground is created from two reportage images from the Guardian Archive; a non-digitised picture library held in King Cross. The upper image shows a protest by hospital workers in November 1973 taken by Edward Hamilton-West from the overpass by Waterloo station in London. The lower image has been printed on a paper referencing FT pink - the paper used by the Financial Times. Smoke is rising from vents after a railway accident in a tunnel near Manchester. ‘Fire Rolls on the Hillside at Summit Tunnel Vents’ 22 December 1984.
