Two works presented in the gardens at Kestle Barton Gallery, 2023.
Anemoijerija is placed in the meadow in relation to the prevailing winds. Lengths of translucent mesh with arrow-like piercings respond to the natural light and are animated by the movement of the wind, creating a complex overlay of colour and shadow. The title is taken from the Greek word for a priestess of the winds.
Stelae are a group of three slender structures in blackened steel with mirrored insets that frame and reflect elements of the garden, pluralising our sense of place. Their cool geometry is a counterpoint to the cacophony of texture and colour in the garden. Elements of the garden are isolated by the mirror sections, which also reflect the passing viewer, whose image is scattered and mingled with the garden.
