A limited edition of lithographs produced with Gray Area Print in Los Angeles, CA, in December 2015. These can be framed flat, or with the fold left as a three-dimensional form. For a framed price, contact the studio.
I chose to work with Breuer’s post-war interior for the United Nations in Paris for two reasons: formally the beautiful fluted concrete ceiling suggests the fold. Conceptually, the order represented here is World Order - the seats of the conference hall are intended for the delegates of all the countries in the UN.
In my print this ordering principal is fractured.
For these lithographs the same image is printed twice, but one print has been made after the paper has been folded, fragmenting it across the first impression. First the whole image is printed in an intense colour - like an after-burn, a memory, a weaker copy. The black image is fractured by the fold - releasing the colour image like the unconscious of the photograph.
